The Tanners Arms

The Tanners Arms is Newcastle’s iconic boozer and the gateway to  Newcastle’s creative quarter, The Ouseburn Valley. Run by a bunch of kindred spirits, the Daz and his team have been dishing up the good stuff at The Tanners Arms since 1998, Gaining a brilliant rep for being stalwarts of the local arts & underground music scene—as well as being passionate about pushing the boundaries of a proper pub.

Their new identity features an eclectic mix of visual styles referencing the history of the pub—from the best 90s electro nights to their current reputation as the place to be for an award-winning Sunday lunch. We crafted their visual expression from local art and communities; for example, the typography references found type from the Byker bridges for a sense of place, the artworks created by the folk who frequent the pub. The identity is authentic, raw, a bit broken, and sometimes outspoken—capturing what has made the pub so unique to so many, including us, for so long. It doesn’t ever try to be part of ‘the crowd’. It’s got grit. And that’s why it’s still standing.
